Museum of Fine arts, Boston
The Museum of Fine arts, Boston contacted us originally to design seasonal catalogs to showcase their products from the Museum Shop. They wanted to reach people beyond those who visited the museum each year. The catalogs grew from 32 pages to 108 pages and were a good income source for the Museum.
During that time, we were asked to design a new poster program using images from the Museum's collection. This program also grew to include small prints, notecards and notecard packaging. Tee shirts and bookmarks were also designed for special visiting exhibitions.

The Challenge
The MFA Boston wanted to enter the market with a new identity for their retail division that was to include catalogs, posters and packaging. Working with images from the Museum's collection would require strict attention to detail and careful color matching to be sure images from their collection remained true to the originals.
The Solution
Apex Production worked with MFA Boston to create a logotype that would appear on posters, packaging and on the cover of the catalogs to create a unity and symbol of identification that accurately reflected the MFA. Color separations were taken into the Museum to make notes on color while looking at the original image. The same attention to detail was provided on press with catalogs, posters and packaging to ensure final color matching to the original images.
The Results
The catalogs, posters and packaging were well received and created the unified image the Museum was looking for across all three venues.
